Abstract

Background: Urticaria is a condition that leads to the development of Hives and/or Angioedema. It can also cause Itching. Urticaria can be chronic and prolonged, and symptoms can negatively impact quality of life, including disrupting sleep and daily activities. This prospective clinical study evaluated Urticaria and Itch symptoms and how they change with Apis Mellifica. The study was designed as a single-arm, prospective interventional trial involving 60 participants aged 18 to 65 years. Participants were selected to represent various types of Urticaria. Assessments were performed at baseline and weeks 1, 2, 4, and 8 and included Urticaria activity, Itch (level and interference with activities and sleep), and Angioedema. For the clinical intervention, various dosage forms and potencies of Apis Mellifica were evaluated. Other statistical analyses were performed. Itch and Urticaria activity symptoms improved. There was a difference of 17.6 (95% confidence interval 15.5 to 19.8) for the average Urticaria activity score (baseline average 31.0; week 8 average 13.4). Itch was reduced by an average of 4.0 (95% confidence interval 3.6 to 4.5). Other assessments also showed improvements. From the clinical data, significant improvements in symptoms were documented over the course of the study; however, given the single-arm design, further controlled trials are required to confirm the specific treatment effect of the intervention.
